Talent strategies and the boardroom
04-01-2006
HR Directors have for years been arguing the strategic significance of their function. It appears that this view is finally gaining momentum and acceptance in the board room. Talent, talent strategies and the HR functions that deliver them are at last being recognised as drivers of performance and profit in their own right.
In the vanguard of the group arguing this case is Tony Williams, Director of HR, Wealth Management at the Royal Bank of Scotland Group. RBS are a long-standing client of ours and it's gratifying to have been able to work alongside the Group at such an important time of change.
His new book Strategic HR, Building the Capability to Deliver, written in association with Peter Reilly, Director of Consultancy at the Institute for Employment Studies, seeks to resolve the argument once and for all with a rigorous assessment of where HR is now, how it got there and where it may be headed. At the same time it offers senior HR professionals a practical guide monitoring HR performance and of demonstrating its value.
